Shahad al Rawi was born in Baghdad in 1986. She holds a PhD in Anthropology and is a writer and novelist. Her first novel The Baghdad Clock went through three printings in the first months of publication, and has been translated into many languages including English. It was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, and won the First Novel Prize at Edinburgh International Festival.
