Afaf Bataineh is an Associate Professor of Arab Studies. She received her M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Prior to joining Zayed University, Afaf worked at the American University of Sharjah and the American University of Kuwait. She is a researcher, novelist, short story writer, translator and literary critic. She is a member of many professional associations and committees. Afaf’s main interests relate to how bilingual speakers manage their linguistic repertoire, with special interest in translanguaging; human development in the Arab world; the modern Arabic novel; modern Arab thought; linguistic reform; translation from English into Arabic; linguistic criticism; gender studies; language policies.
