YUYACHKANI

yuyachkani

The Yuyachkani Cultural Group, founded in 1971, is an independent, self-managed cultural group. Yuyachkani has been a part of a renewal of the Peruvian scene, advocating inclusive and democratic theatre. Its work draws on different sources of Peruvian culture, finding there a fascinating and multi-disciplinary dialogue that results from investigating craft, music, performance, the different bodily cultures that come from dance, mask-making, rites, actions linked to specific sites and non-conventional spaces, etc. Yuyachkani, a Quechua word that means “I am thinking” or “I am remembering” celebrated 50 years of uninterrupted work in July 2021. One of the reasons for Yuyachkani’s continuity is that it is forged a solid identity and, over the course of the decades, has moved with the times, combining tradition and modernity.
