Carlos BRIONES

briones-carlos Doctor in Chemical Sciences (specialisation in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), he is a CSIC Scientific Researcher at the Centre for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA, associated with the NASA Astrobiology Program) where he runs a group that investigates the origin and early evolution of living beings, and also works on the development of biosensors for the detection and description of terrestrial life, also used to search for life beyond the confines of our planet. He has had a long career as a scientific educator, lecturer, course coordinator and writing for the press. He is the author or co-author of several books, including Orígenes. El universo, la vida, los humanos (Crítica, Barcelona, 2015; 2016 Prisma Award for the best popular science book), ¿Estamos solos? En busca de otras vidas en el Cosmos (sole author, Crítica, 2020) and Genes. Escribiendo el guion de la vida (Guadalmazán, 2021). He has also written short stories and poetry books, and with the collection of poems De donde estás ausente he won the Hiperión Prize for Poetry in 1993. He considers himself a strong advocate of the Third Culture to integrate science, humanities and the arts.
