(Santiago de Chile, 1975) He has published, with Anagrama, the novels Bonsai, The Private Life of Trees, Ways of Going Home and Chilean Poet, the book of short stories My Documents, the essay collections No leer (2018) and Tema libre (2019), and a couple of books that are much more difficult to classify, such as the very particular Facsímil, which Anagrama recovered in 2021, and Literatura infantil (2023), a series of stories, fictional and non-fiction, about childhood and parenthood. His novels have been translated into twenty languages, and his stories have appeared in magazines such as The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Paris Review, Granta, Harper's, and McSweeney's. He has been a New York Public Library Fellow and has received, among other honours, the English Pen Award, the O. Henry Prize, and the Prince Claus Award. He currently lives in Mexico City.
