Alejandro studied Economics at the Universidad de los Andes and later gained an MA in Communications Law from the Universidad Javeriana. He was editor of the Research Unit of
El Tiempo newspaper and worked at the Miami Herald and the El Nuevo Herald. He also worked as a researcher for Georgetown University at the Centre for Latin-American Studies. Santos has won two Simon Bolivar prizes and is the co-author of Como hacer periodismo (2002) and Poder y Medios (2004). He’s currently editor-in-chief of
Semana magazine.
