Javier MORENO BARBER

moreno-barber-javier (Paris, 1963) A Chemistry graduate from Valencia University. He worked as a chemist in Germany until 1992, when he studied on the UAM-EL PAÍS Journalism Master’s course. He later worked on the Economy section of the newspaper and in 1994 joined its Mexico edition, the embryo of the current EL PAÍS América, as General Editor. After returning to Spain, he joined the paper’s International section. In 1999 he was appointed Economy Editor and in 2002 became the publication’s Berlin correspondent. In 2003 he was made Editor of the economics newspaper Cinco Días. In 2005 he returned to El País, initially as Assistant Director, in charge of the Sunday edition, and later as Deputy Editor. In 2006, coinciding with the newspaper’s 30th anniversary, he was appointed Editor, and he worked in this post until May 2014. During these years, the paper published international exclusives, including the US State Department cables, together with newspapers including The New York Times and The Guardian, and Chinaleaks, as well as many national exclusives, such as the Bárcenas Papers. In 2013, the American edition of the paper was founded. After leaving the position of Editor in 2014, Moreno became the Founding Editor of the Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA), a group of seven major European newspapers. He ran the UAM-EL PAÍS School of Journalism between December 2017 and June 2018, when he was made Editor of EL PAÍS América.
