Lord Desai is an Indo-British writer, professor and labour politician. A member of the Chamber of Lords, he has been professor of econometrics, macro-economics, Marxist economics and economics for development at the London School of Economics. Beyond being an authority as an economist, he is considered a great intellectual. Among other topics, he has written books about film in India and about poet Ezra Pound.
