Abdallah ABU SHMAIS

Abdallah Abu Shmais was born in Amman, on January 9,1981 and lives there. He obtained a B.A degree in Mechatronic Engineering followed by a Masters degree in Arabic Literature and Criticism and is now preparing his Ph.D thesis in Arabic Literature and Criticism. He has two published poetry collections: Hatha Ta’weel Ru’yai ( This is the Interpretation of my Dream) and Al-khata’ ( The Mistake), and a poetry manuscript on the Israeli war on Gaza entitled Shohoud Gaza "Gaza Witnesses". He was awarded a number of Arabic awards such as: Sharja Award of Arabic Creativity - UAE- 2005, Young Writer Award- A.M. Qattan Foundation - Ramallah- Palestine -2008. He also took part in various Arabic festivals and activities. His poetry experience is characterized by his interest to highlight the voice of the other rather than his own voice which he calls "the Poetic Democracy" that was evident in his poetry collection "The Mistake" and "Gaza Witnesses".
