Eduardo ARROYO

arroyo-eduardo (Madrid, 1937) Spanish painter of figurative style connected to pop art. Key member of the new Spanish artistic figuration, Arroyo gained prominence in the national art scene late, from the 80s onwards, after being forced away for two decades by the Franco regime. His works hang in the most renowned Spanish museums and his creativity extends to theater designs and illustrated editions. Arroyo is currently displayed in many important worldwide art centers. The Reina SofĂ­a Museum in Madrid presents two paintings, highlighting Carmen Amaya asa sardinas en el Waldorf Astoria, where the character is represented symbolically with an Andalusian shawl. The Museo de Bellas Artes of Bilbao, which dedicated an exhibition of his art, owns El camarote de los hermanos marxistas, which mixes film and communism, two of his recurrent themes.
