(Madrid, España 1962) He has a degree in Hispanic Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master’s in Business Management. He has published the books of short stories Los oscuros (1990) and El alma del erizo (2002), the novels La dulce ira (1995), La muerte de Tadzio (2000, Ramón Gómez de la Serna Prize) and Los amores confiados (2005), and the collection of letters Amante del sexo busca pareja morbosa (2002). He won the FFE’s 2009 Antonio Machado Short Story Prize for “Los años más felices” and the 16th NH Vargas Llosa Prize for “Los dientes del azar”. His novel La misma ciudad (2013), whose film rights have been acquired by the film director Salvador Cano, was praised by the Times Literary Supplement, placing its author in the tradition of Paul Auster and Philip Roth. Recent works by him include Las manos cortadas (2009), Woman in Darkness (2012), Donde el silencio (2013 Llanes de Viajes Prize), Toda una vida (2014) and La vida equivocada (2015). In 2016 he has published El amor del revés, some of his memories and experiences as a homosexual.
