Nir Baram was born into a famous political family; both his father and grandfather were ministers in Labor governments in Israel. Hepublished his first novel, Purple Love Story (1998) aged twenty-two, afterfinishing his military service. After The Mask-Ball Children (2000),his second book, he published The Remaker of Dreams (2006), which wasvery successful and was shortlisted for the prestigious Sapir Prize. In 2010 hewon the Prime Minister’s Award for Hebrew literature, with Good People the first Israeli novel dealing with certain themes related to the Second World War, whose rights have been sold in fourteen languages and whose publication was a literary event across Europe. His latest novel, World Shadow (2013), has also been well received by readers and was chosen as one of Time Out’s books of the year. Baram is a regular columnist for the newspaper Haaretz
