Ferran ADRIÁ

Ferran Adrià Acosta was born in Hospitalet de Llobregrat in 1962. He is Spain’s most prestigious and most famous chef. He completed his basic education in Barcelona, and in 1980 he dropped Business Studies and decided to work in a hotel in Castelldefels instead, where he started learning about traditional cui-sine.

Adrià then worked in several restaurants. When he went to work at El Bulli, he experimented with creative cuisine. Shortly afterwards, the restaurant was awarded a third Michelin star and it continued being innovative. However, El Bulli closed and is now called elBullifoundation. In the late 1980's, Adrià started experimenting with food. His experiments are often associated with Molecular Gastronomy, the application of science to culinary practices and cooking phe-nomena. His creations are designed to surprise and delight his guests but the importance of taste is always the ultimate goal. Adria´s recipes are now copied or adapted the world over.

Adrià has received many awards in Spain and France. He won the Silver Spoon which is awarded by the New York magazine Arts and Foods. This is the most prestigious international award for gastronomy. Times Magazine has included Adria´s name in the list of the hundred most influential people in the world.
