Julia CARABIAS

(Distrito Federal, 1954) She took a degree in Biology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where she was part of the university council (1989-93). She was a member of the Movimiento de Acción Popular (1981) and the Partido Socialista Unificado of México (1986). She was the president of the National Institute for Ecology and secretary of the Environment Natural Resources and Fisheries in the government of Ernesto Zedillo. She is a member of the National College and professor at the Science Faculty of the UNAM. She has contributed to several books, including: Agua, medio ambiente y sociedad (2005), Ecología y autosuficiencia alimentaria (2000) Conservación y Desarrollo Sustentable en la Selva Lacandona (2015), El Cambio climático. Causas, efecto y soluciones (2017).
