(Lima, Peru, 1953) A graduate in Sociology and Literature from the University of San Marcos, he did postgraduate studies in Madrid and Lisbon. He has worked for four decades as an educator at all levels of the educational system. He has published books of poetry, fiction, literary journalism and essays. In 1980 he won First Prize for Poetry at the Javier Heraud Juegos Florales, organized by the Peruvian StudentsFederation, and Peru’s El Poeta Joven competition. These accolades were for the poetry books Ceremonial de muertes y linajes and De faunas y dioses, compiled in the volume Poemas, published in 1981. In 1982 he won the Copé Poetry Prize for Ítaca, his third poetry book, and in 1994 he was shortlisted for the Casa de las Américas Prize in the category of literature for children and young adults. He was included on the IBBY List of Honour in 2000. This cultural manager is also passionate about sports and collects popular toys and games. He is a head lecturer and researcher at Lima University and edits Lienzo magazine.
