This is a phoenix year for the festival. We want Brecon to celebrate the enduring legends like Hugh Masekela and the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® featuring Omara Portuondo; we want to put free music on the streets of the town with the Carnival Parade and have families enjoy spectacular party concerts; but most of all we want to make Brecon Jazz the essential home for the new generation of jazz superstars, and a byword for innovation and excellence.
For the first time America and Europe are looking to Britain's emerging talent with respect and wonder. We are enjoying a new golden age of British Jazz. The bands featured this year, from the Portico Quartet and Kairos 4tet to Get The Blessing, Matthew Halsall, Brass Jaw, Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes, hold their own in fantastic company with the galaxy of Scandinavian, French and American stars appearing here this year. They have the power and the genius to re-establish jazz as a universal, popular and joyful part of life.
