THE POLITICS OF FOOD – THOMASINA MIERS

This year saw a return to Hay for me after a five year break having babies(!).  It was bliss to be back.

We packed our 48 hours in with talks on chess and artificial intelligence, the human condition and our propensity for violence, our relationship with Islam, some incredibly moving Letters Live (one, read by Tom Hollander, had an audience of 600 in tears) and a binge at a vintage clothes stall and, of course, the bookshop.

My talk was a meaty debate on the politics of food with Rosie Boycott and touched on themes from my new book, Home Cook.  We ate well, talked about the meaning of life, danced and made merry.  It was a life affirming, informative and packed two days.

I have come away with a reading list of impossible length but I am the eternal optimist.  My brain feels fuller and lighter than it did on arrival.  I can’t wait to come back.  Thank you so much for having me.
