Fair Trade Alliance Kerala invited 2011 festival-goers to visit working Keralan multi-crop farms.

FTAK is a group of farmers committed to the global fair trade market for coffee, spices, coconut and cashew crops. You can see sustainable organic farming on multi-crop farms and witness the attempts of a group of Kerala farmers to recapture their homestead farming traditions against the onslaught of mono-crop commercial agriculture. Their organic farming practices are critical to protect the biodiversity of the Nilgiri Biosphere, an environmental hotspot that is soon to be accorded World Heritage Status by the United Nations.

Located in the Wayanad District of Kerala, the farms are reached by an exciting overnight train journey from Thiruvananthapuram and three hours by road. Local transport and hospitality is provided by the farmers themselves.
