I played a concert with my band at the Hay Festival on Friday night. It was my first time at Hay and I enjoyed everything about it. It’s been such a lovely day: awesome weather, amazing location and a brilliant crowd. I’ve never been anywhere like it. There’s such a mix of stuff going on and in such a beautiful place. I love being on a programme alongside really great literary names but also fantastic musicians.
I didn’t know what to expect from the Festival but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. Obviously Hay is famous for being the ‘book town’ but it’s music offering is pretty special too. Writing is at the heart of what all singer-songwriters do, so to be surrounded by so many excellent writers is really inspiring. Hay visitors take real delight in the written word and so it’s great to perform for an audience who so loves lyrics.
