Ox Travels

Profile & Oxfam embark on a new (ad)venture

When two dozen of Britain's most lively, critical and thought-provoking travel writers are asked to recall a significant encounter – one that has enriched the writer – the result is a book that will broaden everyone's horizons.

OxTravels will be published by Profile Books on 26 May 2011 and will be launched at Hay Festival, 26 May–5 June 2011.

Michael Palin

Ox Travels

Introduced by Michael Palin, OxTravels will be published in aid of Oxfam and with a launch event at the Hay Festival. A stellar line-up of contributors includes Rory Stewart, Colin Thubron, William Dalrymple, Sara Wheeler, Dervla Murphy, Chris Stewart, Ruth Padel, Aminatta Forna, Tim Butcher and Patrick Leigh Fermor. All proceeds will go to Oxfam.

From Rory Stewart's portrait of an Afghan wrestler to Sara Wheeler's recollection of a love affair in Poland, from Ruth Padel searching for tiger shamans in Sumatra, to Aminatta Forna rediscovering Sierra Leone, OxTravels' stories are life-changing, affecting and amusing, by turn. Together they will transport readers into a brilliant, vivid atlas of encounters.

You have to go back to the 1980s and Granta's all-time bestselling travel issue to find a book that compares to OxTravels. This is a dream-team of travel writers, introducing young bloods along with the old masters, and their stories will stay with you for years to come.”Mark Ellingham, Editor
A travel book seems really appropriate for Oxfam, and we are very excited by the fantastic list of authors who will be contributing. The books will raise valuable funds to support Oxfam's life-changing work around the world, and after the great success of 2009's Ox-Tales series, we are really excited to be working with Profile again on another wonderful book idea.”David McCullough, Oxfam's Trading Director
These are adventures full of wonders conjured by the finest possible travelling companions. Come and join us to launch them at Hay and see the world.”Peter Florence, Hay Festival Director
