Oxfam Bookfest 2009 is now over – thanks for all your wonderful support.
Following hard on the heels of Oxfam’s triumphant appearance at The Guardian Hay Festival 2009 (check out our montage to the right) came Oxfam’s first ever book festival, Oxfam Bookfest.
From 4 to 18 July, readers joined in to celebrate their love of books at over 250 events in Oxfam shops, libraries, community centres and other venues around the UK, featuring a host of authors and celebrities.
Oxfam has been selling books in its network of shops for more than 50 years, raising millions of pounds to help its work fighting poverty around the world. They are the largest retailer of second-hand books in Europe.
Taking part in Oxfam Bookfest were Poet Laureate Carol Anne Duffy, Ian Rankin, Alexander McCall Smith, Mark Haddon, Kate Atkinson, Vikram Seth, Joanna Trollope, Anne Fine, Jonathan Coe, Marina Lewycka, Michael Faber and Nicholas Shakespeare, among many others.
