AHEC (American Hardwood Export Council)AHEC promotes the use of beautiful and sustainable American hardwoods around the world. This year AHEC is bringing back the stunning ‘Wave and Splash’ bench in American tulipwood to Hay which will again provide a shady place for visitors to relax right at the heart of the Festival in the central square. Designed by leading British furniture designer Philip Koomen and designer Clare Keil, the Bench installation combines aesthetics with a very practical purpose. Since last year’s Festival, the Bench has been exposed to all weathers as part of an ongoing research programme to test a special oil treatment, which has been developed by Osmose to make tulipwood suitable for outdoor use. And its second public appearance at Hay marks an important stage in this process.Philip Koomen also designed the beautiful American red oak stage furniture which will make its third appearance this year, with backdrops in tulipwood by Clare Keil.
