Griots to Garage
The rising superstar trombonist introduces his show ‘Griots to Garage: A Musical History of the African Diaspora’. He takes the audience through an historical musical journey, inspired by the African Diaspora, starting with the long-established traditional cultures of sixteenth century West Africa. 'Griots to Garage' documents the path of peoples and time through music of African origin: the horrors of transportation and slavery; field-work songs; the developments of the blues and jazz; and onwards through samba, soul and reggae, to the funky, urban hip-hop and garage grooves of today. The music is perfectly complemented by the artistry of Vijay artist Nick Hillel of Yeast Multimedia, whose mixing of imagery with live performance intensifies the emotional impact of this powerful story of tragedy and transcendence.
