Transition Hay-on-Wye

Transition Hay-on-Wye

Transition Hay-on-Wye is one of thousands of community groups looking at positive and creative responses to peak oil and climate change. Local food production and broad community involvement are big parts of this effort and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Festival on the permaculture garden and the allotments.

The allotments on this year’s site are the result of a collaboration between the Hay Festival, the National Trust and Transition Hay-on-Wye. The Festival is providing the space, the National Trust has set up and planted the allotments, and Transition Hay-on-Wye is maintaining the allotments as a community project throughout the year.

The permaculture garden at this year’s festival is an attempt to create something beautiful and useful through good design, very little financial outlay, lots of creativity, and lots of community input. It is a joint project involving students on Sarah Pugh’s permaculture design course in Bristol, and Transition Hay-on-Wye.
