The campaigning journalist traces the history of disability and our discomfort with disabled people, from Greek and Roman culture through the Industrial Revolution and the origins of Britain’s asylum system to the eugenics movement and the Holocaust, ‘Ugly Laws’ and ‘Community Care’.
