Phronesis

Pitch Black

 – Pembertons Stage, Christ College
In 2010 Phronesis developed a fierce reputation as one of the most formidable trios in the UK. Nominated for Best Jazz Ensemble in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards and Best Jazz Act at the Mobo Awards, their third album Alive was also voted Jazz Album of the Year in both Jazzwise and Mojo magazines. The trio will perform music from this album and preview new material from their forthcoming album, due for release in spring 2012.

The trio's second album Green Delay was recorded as a dedication to Jasper Høiby's sister who, due to a form of cataract, totally lost her sight over a two-month period. The Pitch Black project was conceived to explore the nature of our sensory relationship with music. Does the absence of one sense heighten our other senses? How do we communicate with those around us? Is our awareness changed? What do we feel and hear? Do we ‘look’ at things differently? Premièring at Brecon, this acclaimed trio bring us the unique and challenging experience of a live music performance in total darkness.

Please note that this performance will take place in complete darkness, so arriving on time is absolutely necessary.
