Internships at Hay Festival

Interning at Hay Festival is an intense and very diverse experience; one moment you could be serving drinks at a reception, and the next showing Stephen Fry to his venue.

We require unflagging enthusiasm and an open, sociable approach; in return you will gain experience from working in a tight team delivering over 700 events across 11 days, from baby yoga to literary giants and political debate. The internships are mainly aimed at recent graduates trying to gain work experience to start a career in publishing, the arts or events management.

Hay Festival runs Green Room and Press Office internships over the 11 days of the Festival in Wales, which are unpaid. Applicants need to be available for the duration of the festival. Hay Festival covers accommodation and food for the duration; interns arrange their own travel to and from Hay.

Interns at Hay Festival are based in the Festival Office on site and help out with a wide range of jobs including stage management assistance, hospitality in the green room, meeting and greeting authors, working with Hay Festival's PR representatives and manning reception desks.

Applications for internships at the 2013 festival are now closed. Please check back later in the year for details on how to apply for the 2014 festival.
