The Clangers changed my life

Growing up as child in the Seventies a combination of the Clangers, Lieutenant Uhuru from Star Trek and the early days of space exploration convinced Dr Aderin-Pocock that her future lay in the stars.

She told youngsters in the audience that it was important that they followed their dreams, and made every effort to turn them into reality. She said, “Have a crazy dream and see where it will take you.”

Despite having undiagnosed dyslexia at school she excelled at science, and after her studies at university pursued her ambition of becoming a space scientist.

Peppering her talk about star-spotting and the latest developments in astronomy with anecdotes from her own life, she took the youngsters on a whistle-stop tour of the Cosmos taking in Orion, the Plough along with the latest data on the outer regions of space.
