Hay remains closed to visitors - see the latest advice at https://gov.wales/coronavirus - however we are very pleased to share with you here the shops in Hay which are operating online and if you felt able to support them remotely that would be wonderful.

Julie Leonard launched The Welsh Girl in 2015. The lifestyle range, a contemporary take on tradition, currently comprises of ponchos that double as throws, coler cwtch scarves, bags, accessories and cushions in various shapes and sizes. The cloth, woven on traditional looms that the iconic Welsh tapestry blankets were once made, is produced in colour combinations unique to The Welsh Girl. Only small runs are made and no two colour combinations are ever repeated, making each of these pieces limited edition items. The patch and block works are created from traditional Welsh flannel, a cloth with a long and interesting history. Only one of a kind cushions and three of a kind bags are ever made. Commissions for the home are also undertaken. Everything is designed and handmade at her studio / shop in Hay on Wye.
Between our three shops an inviting little community has been created for the new visitor to Hay as well as our regular customers. As with so many bookshops, much of our business is now conducted on the internet; but the development of e-commerce has been parallel to and not at the expense of our shops.

Drover Cycles is based in Hay and offers bike hire, a fully stocked shop, repair centre and cafe. We also run cycling events including an annual Everesting Challenge which involves riding up to Gospel Pass 16 times! We started the business in 2007 after returning from a cycling expedition across Africa. We wanted to share our love for life on two wheels and we are still just as passionate about encouraging cycling in all its forms. We are proud to serve the local community but we also rely heavily on tourism. This should be the start of our busy season but trade is almost non-existent. We are determined to keep going but Coronavirus presents a very real threat to our existence. So, if you can, please do support us at this time by making an online purchase or entering one of events scheduled for later in 2020.
