A programme of interactive encounters between festival guests and the student population of Xalapa. Open to students aged over 18 (see the specialities for each workshop). Where no language is listed, the event will take place in Spanish.

Thursday 4 October

Miguel Gallardo on the graphic novel
Miguel Gallardo, a regular contributor to La Vanguardia, Herald Tribune and The New York Times, will share his knowledge with visual arts students.

[E2] 7pm–8pm, CENTRO RECREATIVO XALAPEÑO
Janne Teller on human rights and literature
An encounter with arts, media, anthropology, sociology and international relations students. Janne Teller is a Danish writer and author of the novel Nothing. She also spent several years of her life working in conflict resolution for the United Nations.

Lola Arias on theatre
This event is an encounter between theatre students and the theatre director and founder of the Compañía Postnuclear, an interdisciplinary group of Argentinean artists.

Ed Vulliamy on journalistic investigation
An encounter aimed at media, anthropology, sociology and international relations students who want to go more deeply into the matter; with Ed Vulliamy, an expert in international conflicts.

Alan Pauls on film criticism
An encounter aimed at media, film and arts students interested in film criticism. Given by the Argentinean writer, literary critic and scriptwriter Alan Pauls.

[E6] 7pm–8pm, CENTRO RECREATIVO XALAPEÑO
Óscar Guardiola-Rivera on the challenges facing Latin America
This philosopher and law lecturer will talk to media, law, international relations, philosophy and sociology students about the issues he raises in his latest book What If Latin America Ruled the World?

Saturday 6 October

Bef on the graphic novel
Bef, the writer and illustrator, author of Hielo negro, will share his knowledge with visual arts students.

Reina María Rodríguez on poetry
Arts and media students will have an hour to share poetry with the Cuban poet Reina María Rodríguez.

[E10] 7pm–8pm, CENTRO RECREATIVO XALAPEÑO
Luigi Amara on poetry
Luigi Amara is a poet and essayist with a keen interest in aphorisms. He will spend an hour dedicated to poetry with arts and media students.

Sunday 7 October

Guillermo Quijas on publishing
The managing director of the Almadía publishing house will talk to arts and media students about this exciting profession.

[E12] 1.30pm–2.30pm, CENTRO RECREATIVO XALAPEÑO
Susie Orbach on Bodies
Susie Orbach will talk to psychology and sociology students about current conceptions of the body and their consequences in our daily lives.

Gisela Leal on her first novel
This author will talk to arts and media students about her novel El club de los abandonados, a novel that deals with the process of growing, solitude and the search for identity.

[E14] 7pm–8pm, CENTRO RECREATIVO XALAPEÑO
Peter Godwin on working in human rights
Peter Godwin has been a correspondent for The Sunday Times, worked as a documentary-maker for the BBC and is a specialist on the African continent. He will talk to media, sociology and anthropology students about human rights.
