Manu DIBANGO

Born in Duala, Cameroon, in 1933. Saxophonist, orchestral director , author, composer and singer. Known for his humanism and fight against social disparity. Manu Dibango was appointed in 2004 by Koichiro Matsuura of UNESCO as ‘UNESCO Artist for Peace’ for his contribution to the development of arts, peace and dialogue between the cultures of the world. He created the musical genre known as ‘makossa’. His musical legacy is long, varied and polyrythmical. Gifted with an extraordinary skill to play several instruments (he can play tenor, soprano, high and baritone sax, the flute, the piano, the vibraphone and the Hammond organ), his music is followed by a loyal and admiring audience.
