Óscar CHÁVEZ

[Mexico. 1935]
 Oscar Chavez is a Mexican singer, composer and actor. He completed a degree in theatre studies at UNAM (The National University of Mexico) and has produced, and performed in several theatre productions, films and television dramas. He has also narrated documentaries about Mexican history. Chávez was one of the first people to introduce the Nueva Trova to Mexico in the 60s and 70s with well-known songs such as Por tí and Macondo that made him famous across Latin America. His back-catalogue spans 40 years during which time he created and developed many different types of traditional and popular Latin American music. In Mexico, he is well-known for his anti-government liberal protest songs and for his support of the Zapatista revolutionary movement. Chávez has performed in several countries across the world including Spain, Holland, Argentina and Chile.
