(Lasarte, Gipuzkoa, 1975) In 1994 he published his first book of poems. Since then he has published various books including the novel Twist (2011 in Basque; 2013 in Spanish), Beluna jazz (1996; Jazz y Alaska en la misma frase, 2004), the alternative history Belarraren ahoa (2005; El filo de le hierba, 2007), the short story collection Neguko zirkua (2005; Circo de invierno, 2013), and Piano gainean gosaltzen (2000; El puente desafinado, 2003), a book of biographical writings that resulted from his stay in New York before 9/11, from which period also comes his poetry book Norbait dabil sute-eskaileran (2001; Alguien anda en la escalera de incendios, 2008). He has also published a book of poems written in Spanish, Compro oro (2011). He has translated writers such as Hanif Kureishi and Allen Ginsberg into Basque. At first influenced by detective films, gritty realism and pop culture, his themes and style have become more refined in recent works. He has twice been awarded both the Euskadi Literature Prize and the Critics’ Award. His novels have been translated into Russian, Greek, German, Italian, Dutch, Galician and English.
