Carlos VARGAS SALGADO

Theatre director, researcher and teacher. He began in the Aviñón Theatre Company in Arequipa in 1991, with which he directed twenty-five shows and participated at numerous international festivals in Peru, Argentina, Chile and the United States. He has a PhD in Hispanic Literatures from the University of Minnesota (2011). He has been a director and actor in residence at the Teatro del Pueblo in Minnesota and has been consultant to the Political Theatre Festival in Minneapolis since 2005. He has given lectures at the University of Minnesota, Carleton College, the Briar Cliff University and Whitman College (USA). His academic and journalistic writings have appeared in various publications in the United States, Spain, Chile, Brazil and Peru. He is a member of the Modern Language Association, the American Society for Theatre Research, the Asociación Internacional de Teatro del Siglo XXI (Spain) and the International Brecht Society (Germany). He has recently worked, either as director or writer, with the Teatro del Pueblo, Shakespeare Walla Walla, Harper Joy Theater (Whitman) and Pearl Damour (New Orleans). He is currently a member of the Educational Committee of the Shakespeare Walla Walla Company in Washington and lectures in Latin American Theatre and Andean Literatures at Whitman College in Washington.
