SURICATO

suricato

Suricato officially represents Colombia as a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Artistic Portfolio. The group is made up of three Bogota musicians, María Mónica Gutiérrez, Kike Mendoza and Jorge Sepúlveda, all from the world of jazz. This band has created, using an unusual combination (vocals, guitar, double bass and drums), a diverse and balanced musical style. The faint and abrupt vocals, dreamy lyrics, sharp guitar work and a rocking bass rhythm are the ideal ingredients for offering the listener a unique sound experience that can change from smooth moderation to more impetuous and risky terrain.

They have toured Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, the United States, Spain and Italy. In July 2017 they did their 6th tour, invited to Washington, D.C. where they launched their third album, Detrás del Sol.

Guests at festivals such as Jazz al Parque, the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, Atlantijazz and the Free Flow Jazz Fest, they have received prizes and plaudits in Colombia. They have released three albums with La Distritofónica and their music has received good reviews in Colombia and abroad, with Remolque Juguete listed as one of the best albums of 2011 and Rosario de Pluma named one of the three best jazz releases of 2013, according to Revista Semana.

They have played more than 100 concerts at the most prestigious venues including the most important in the US capital, the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and the BID Auditorium.
