The Parrot and the Merchant with Alia Alzougbi

Venue: The Storytelling Nook

Long, long ago in Persia, storytellers (pardekhans) would travel the empire with illustrations painted on to a large canvas (called a parde). As they travelled from town to town, they would stand before the crowd, display the canvas and narrate their story. Come and experience the ancient practice of pardekhani with Tiny Owl’s wonderful storyteller and discover the epic tale by the legendary Persian poet Rumi, illustrated by Marjan Vafaian.

The event will be chaired by Nicky Parker of Amnesty International UK and the audience will be invited to draw or write a message of welcome on postcards that will be distributed to refugees or asylum seekers in the UK.
