Mauricio García Villegas in conversation with Juan Diego Mejía

Mauricio García Villegas has a PhD in Politics and is a lecturer at the National University of Colombia, at the University of Wisconsin’s Institute for Legal Studies and at the University of Grenoble. He is also a researcher in the field of justice and a columnist for El Espectador. The author of several books, his latest publication is El país de las emociones tristes (2021). This extended essay, based on the ideas of the philosopher Baruch Spinoza, tries to explain how in a country like Colombia, so many good ideas, so many national projects have failed, giving rise to a history of conflicts, corruption and injustice. In conversation with Juan Diego Mejía, Mauricio García Villegas addresses the cultural connections among religion, politics and the emotional.

Adela Cortina (Spain) has honorary doctorates from a number of universities in Spain and across Europe and Latin America, she is a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, has been on the jury of the Princess of Asturias Awards for Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences and is also the author of over thirty publications, including her book Aporofobia. El rechazo al pobre. In her most recent work, Ética cosmopolita. Una apuesta por la cordura en tiempos de pandemia (2021), the writer and philosopher reflects on some of the crucial questions of our times: how will we overcome the chaos caused by the Covid-19 pandemic? What will the future bring? Cortina will talk about these vital matters with Adolfo Eslava.

Ai Weiwei in conversation with Mariana H

The artist and thinker Ai Weiwei (China) trained at the Beijing Film Academy and later, on moving to New York, continued his studies at the Parsons School of Design. His solo exhibitions have been seen in the world's leading contemporary art museums. Among the numerous awards and accolades he has received are a recognition at the Chinese Contemporary Art Awards in 2008 and his appointment as honorary academician of the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2011. His human rights work has been recognised with the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent in 2012 and Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award in 2015. Ai Weiwei is considered one of the leading cultural figures of his generation and serves as an example for freedom of expression both in China and internationally. He will talk to the journalist and writer Mariana H.
