Hay Festival Foundation

For 30 years Hay has brought readers and writers together to share stories and ideas in sustainable events around the world, from the beaches of Cartagena de Indias to the cities of Beirut and Mumbai. Our Festivals inspire, examine and entertain.

The Hay Festival Foundation is a registered charity created to support the aims of the Festival in Britain and internationally. The Foundation brings people of all ages together to support our educational initiatives and opportunities. We are committed to access and inclusion and to the pursuit of excellence and happiness.

The Foundation is supported through philanthropy and charitable grants. Please join us to secure the Festival for future generations, to imagine the world as it is and as it might be.

Foundation Projects

Over the past 30 years we have reached more than five million people on five continents in live events.

All our Festivals are free for students in full-time higher education.

Each year we bring 10,000 children from 220 schools to the free schools days in Hay.

Hay Academy

Hay Academy provides internship and work experience opportunities for young people in the cultural, event production and technology sectors.

Hay Levels

The Hay Levels are specially commissioned three-minute videos made by academics from the world’s greatest universities for A-Level students. Viewing figures exceed 237,000 and continue to grow.

We work with PLAN International in South America to develop literary and library projects in the barrios and with the public library in Hay.

Hay in the Parc

Hay in the Parc develops our nine-year literature and literacy partnership with HMP/YOI Parc Prison Bridgend, reaching over 1,500 prisoners and young offenders.

Talking About Shakespeare

‘Talking About Shakespeare’ is a video project sharing the work of academics, actors, directors and film-makers celebrating Shakespeare’s plays.

Hay Player

Hay Player is the video and audio archive of our events from all our Festivals made digitally available to everyone and shared with libraries and universities globally.
