We live in an age of information, and the Internet, affordable for many, is one of the key elements in this society. However, behind the freedom and democratization of information that is seemingly offered by telecommunications, things are not so simple. Marta Peirano is the author of the books El rival de Prometeo: Vidas de Autómatas Ilustres, El pequeño libro rojo del activista en la red, El enemigo conoce el sistema and Contra el futuro. The last of these was written to help us face the climate crisis with citizen action tools that challenge was the author calls “climate feudalism”. Peirano was involved in founding the Culture sections of ADN and eldiario.es, has been a director of the Copyfight initiative and is co-founder of the Hacks/Hackers Berlin and Cryptoparty Berlin groups. Her TED talk ¿Por qué me vigilan, si no soy nadie? has been seen over four million times on YouTube. At this event, we will discuss technological sovereignty, democracy and a healthy environment with Marta Peirano. In conversation with Arturo Marcial Padrón Hernández.

Marta Peirano (Spain) is a journalist and researcher who specialises in the relations between power and technology. Her work is known for its critical and analytical insights, investigating the dangers of concentrated power structures and addictive digital dynamics, and has received international recognition. Her latest book is Contra el futuro, resistencia ciudadana contra el feudalismo climático. According to her, there are solutions to climate change within our reach and her book sets out some strategies for citizen action in order to counter the acceleration of climate feudalism and disaster capitalism; a new anti-apocalyptic approach that builds hope for the future. In conversation with Olivia Zerón.
