Two musical pioneers, Phil Manzanera (Colombia / UK) and Kevin Johansen (Argentina / United States) will talk about the creative work of fusing genres and experimenting with different sounds, products of their Latin and English-speaking backgrounds, a mixture that has been crucial to their work. Johansen, whose concerts and projects have captivated listeners on both sides of the Atlantic, and Manzanera, of the legendary Roxy Music and producer of artists such as Héroes del Silencio, Fito Páez, Aterciopelados and David Gilmour, will talk together for the first time at an event moderated by Andrés Mompotes.
Tei Shi (Valerie Teicher Barbosa) is a Colombian-Canadian singer and songwriter. Her lyrics, which were initially all in English, have gradually come to terms with her Hispanic roots, the result of the Latin music that was always playing around her; and also due to a particular source of inspiration, which is wishing to set poems written in Spanish to music. Her latest work, Bad Premonition, is composed of six songs that demonstrate how well she has consolidated her artistic personality after ten years of searching and introspection, thus opening a new phase of creative freedom and growth. She will offer a brief concert and will talk about her music career. In conversation with Federico Ochoa.
The Argentinean-US musician Kevin Johansen and the illustrator and cartoonist Liniers (Argentina) unite for an illustrated concert at which the music of Johansen becomes image and Liniers’ drawings become songs. A spectacular and moving live show for singing and setting the imagination free.
A musician who rose to fame in a legendary band, Phil Manzanera (Colombia/UK), will talk to Fernando Gómez. Having spent his childhood in Cuba, he has an unbreakable link with Latin America. The guitarist and composer was one of the founders of the band Roxy Music and he has produced albums by Héroes del Silencio, Fito Páez, Aterciopelados, David Gilmour and many more. He will speak about a life dedicated to music and his love for Latin America, as he describes it in his memoir Revolución to Roxy.
All Sunday events will be free for people who has an ID expeded in the Bolívar Department. You must request their courtesy tickets at the box office of the Hay Festival (CCCI) showing your ID, between 22 and 28 of January.
The Creole Group band preserves the musical legacy of the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Before he died, the founder, the artist Orston Christopher, recommended to the young people of the group that they maintain the archipelago’s musical heritage. Recognised by the islanders as a major part of this legacy, they have performed this music around the world for the past 36 years. Kent Francis James will talk to the writer and journalist Daniel Samper Pizano about the origin and legacy of the band, alongside Creole Group's live music.
