This member of the BBC Mundo, Alejandro Millán, team will explain the working model of the Spanish-language section of this British news service, which is over a hundred years old and is renowned for its news rigour and quality, focussing particularly on audio-visual content creation and managing the social media.

Carlos Umaña (Costa Rica) received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017, together with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), for raising “awareness about the humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for their efforts to achieve a prohibition on such weapons”. In this conversation with Pablo Cateriano, Umaña will talk about environmentalism and the need to eradicate nuclear weapons from the world, as well as his work as a scientist and activist. Américo Zambrano Romero (Peru) is a writer and journalist who is known for his ability to tell complex stories, bringing a human dimension to the cold statistics of crime. Winner of the 2023 National Journalism Prize, he talks to us about his recent book, Nuestros muertos, an in-depth investigation focussing on the events of 2023 after the failed coup attempted by Pedro Castillo in Peru. In the book, the author examines the decisions taken by the government to try and stop the protests that marked the beginning of its mandate. In conversation with Victoria Guerrero Peirano.

This event involves the screening of a 15-minute documentary, followed by a conversation between Alejandro Millán, producer of the documentary and BBC Mundo journalist, and Matías Zibell. The Tsimane are one of the 36 indigenous nations officially recognised by the plurinational state of Bolivia. Its 16,000 semi-nomadic members live in the Misión Fátima region, a remote corner of the Bolivian Amazon. Experts believe that it is their very isolation that contributes to the unique way in which this ethnicity ages, something that scientists have been studying for decades.

Hari Kunzru, a graduate of Oxford University with a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Warwick, has been a member of the executive board of the English PEN and named by Granta as one of the "best young British novelists"; he has also won various awards, such as the Observer Young Travel Writer of the Year and a British Book Award. In May this year he published his new book, Blue Ruin. Jonathan Castro (Peru) is a political and investigative journalist who works for the La Encerrona outlet. Karima Ziali is a Spanish writer and researcher of Moroccan origin. She has a degree in Philosophy, a Master’s in Anthropological Research and a doctorate in Migratory Studies. Her first novel is entitled Una oración sin dios. In conversation with Karen Bernedo.

Xabier Díaz is a writer and journalist of Spanish origin, known for his work on matters related to ecology and sustainability, and for his dedication to documenting the environmental matters and challenges faced by Latin America. In his new book, Abecedario Climático Peruano, he presents over a hundred illustrated words, with stories and photos collected in the coastal, mountain and rainforest regions of Peru over the course of fifteen years. The work highlights the local eco-heroes who lead climate action, while also preserving ancestral knowledge, and it combines personal testimonies with an analysis of the effects of climate change on different communities. In conversation with Andrea Chanove.
The Peruvian filmmaker Lucho Llosais a director and producer. After time spent as a journalist and film critic, he has since worked making films, being the first Latin American to make three big budget films in the US movie industry. His production company, Iguana Films, creates series and films in Peru and other countries in the region. He has directed films such as Hour of the Assassin, Sniper, The Specialist, Anaconda, The Feast of the Goa and Tatuajes en la memoria. He has also made television series, such as Gamboa and the soap opera Carmín. In addition, he has also worked in the theatre, and on the creation of the “museums of the image” concept. En la montaña is a book about the encounter between the journalist and documentary-maker Diego Enrique Osorno (Mexico) and the Zapatista movement, which is 30 years old this year. This text, which is a mixture of reporting and personal reflection, begins in 2021 with the invitation sent to him by the Zapatista National Liberation Army to join the crew of the ship La montaña, in which a Zapatista delegation was to cross the Atlantic Ocean, beginning a journey of visits to Zapatista communities around the world over the course of many months. His task was to be a witness to register the events of that journey. In conversation with the El País journalist, Camila Osorio.

They will talk to Clara Elvira Ospina (Colombia), a journalist with more than 30 years of experience in Colombia and Peru, and founder of the independent media company Epicentro.

The writer and journalist Juan Manuel Robles (Peru) will talk to Patricia Donaire about his latest book. In 2017 he was included on the Bogotá39 list as one of the 39 best Latin American fiction writers aged under 40. Author of non-fiction, novels, essays and short stories, his most recent publication is Tragedia en Collins Avenue,an outstanding work of literary non-fiction that recreates the events of 24 June 2021 in Miami, when the Champlain Towers South building, a 13-storey block, collapsed, causing the death of 98 people. Roblesuncovers a hidden world of corruption that lies below the surface in opulent Miami Beach, but also reveals the diversity of voices, cultures and nationalities that converge in this complex and moving story.

The Zapatista movement takes to the high seas, and this event is the one portrayed by Diego Enrique Osorno in the documentary La montaña.For over 50 days, he shared with the crew of this ship, and with seven Zapatista representatives, a journey that emulates the one in which the conquistadors came to the New World. Now, the indigenous world makes contact with Europe in order to bring the news of communities that resist. The director will present the documentary.
