The intruder is the migrant whom no one has called, who risks his life in search of a better future, who walks mile after mile for months, sometimes years, to reach a land he believes holds opportunities. Sometimes he crosses the sea in the worst conditions. Sometimes they scale walls that are like fortresses. They overcome all their fears in the hope of finding a future for themselves and for the family they surely left behind.
On this occasion, painting, sculpture, and music come together to make us think about them. They have arrived. Who are they, what do they want from me, what do they bring me, what will they do to me, how will their presence, their culture, their drive affect me?
The relationship between Guillem Salas’s nude sculptures, Patricia Azcárate’s pictorial fields, and Alfonso Gargallo’s musical narrative begins with mistrust: at first, the figures hide, feeling uncomfortable, unsure of where to stand, anxiously searching for a place where they can be understood; they wander back and forth without finding their place; until a dialogue emerges: figures and paintings speak to one another, listen to one another, and transform.

Lilly Reich, Mies and shared authorship

The pursuit of beauty in architecture and the creation of masterpieces have historically been associated with the solitary work of the great individual genius. However, new interpretations of authorship have brought to light the creative reality of teamwork and challenged some of the most deeply entrenched narratives of modern architecture.
Laura Martínez de Guereñu, architect, lecturer at IE University and author of Lilly Reich in Barcelona, will discuss, in conversation with Niklas Maak, architect, writer and art and architecture editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the context and process through which Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe created the legendary Barcelona Pavilion in 1929, known as the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion since its reconstruction in 1986. The conversation will address the reasons why Lilly Reich’s creative contribution was sidelined for decades and will question whether it is legitimate to suggest that today the work could be called the Mies van der Rohe / Lilly Reich Pavilion.
The book Lilly Reich in Barcelona: The Materialization of a Neglected Authorship (Finalist for the 2026 FAD Thought and Criticism Award) analyses this historiographical oversight and shows how the rediscovery of Lilly Reich has transformed our understanding of architectural masterpieces, creative collaboration and the very nature of authorship.

CEDRO event: Reading attention, a shared challenge

Javier Sierra, writer and journalist; Vicente Alcañiz, Education Inspector at the Regional Ministry of Education of the Community of Madrid; and Mar Domínguez, director of the Colpisa news agency will reflect on the challenges reading face. In conversation with Carme Riera, writer, deputy director of the RAE and president of CEDRO, they will address how reading habits have changed, the impact of social media and new sources of information. In addition, there will be a discussion on the benefits of reading and the importance of education as a key tool for promoting respect for copyright and combating piracy through awareness-raising. And how reading makes us reflect on beauty and pain, emotion, knowledge and worlds that are sometimes inaccessible were it not for books.

Museums are no longer simply places to preserve and display collections. They have become catalysts for urban transformation, cultural dialogue and innovation. How can architecture, curatorship and cultural leadership shape the cities—and societies—of the future?
Ben van Berkel, founder and principal architect of UNStudio, Sheikha Reem Al-Thani, Acting Deputy CEO of Exhibitions and Marketing and Director of Central Exhibitions at Qatar Museums, Manuela Lucà-Dazio, Executive Director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and David Goodman, Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design, come together to explore the evolving role of museums as living cultural institutions.
From iconic museum buildings to visionary cultural programmes, the conversation will examine how museums can foster creativity, strengthen communities and redefine the relationship between culture, education and the public realm. What makes a museum not only a destination, but a catalyst for social and urban change?

A Conversation with Palestine is everywhere and 28 Magazine

Co-published by TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Silver Press, and the87Press, and edited by Skye Arundhati Thomas, Edwin Nasr and Gloria Habsburg, Palestine is everywhere is a contributor-led anthology of testimony, poetry, essays, and artworks from Gaza and beyond. This editorial project, initiated in 2023, expands in 2026 with a series of commissioned visual, sonic, and multimedia works presented on a dynamic digital platform, bringing it into the present tense. https://palestineiseverywhere.tba21.org/
Mahmoud al-Shaer and Muhammad al-Zaqzouq used to run a magazine in Gaza called 28 Magazine, a platform for writers and artists on the ground. They had to halt their operations for the past two and a half years due to the genocide, but are currently creating a special edition of the magazine in collaboration with the Palestine is everywhere digital platform. This issue of 28 Magazine will reflect on the complex state of living in a suspended war, and the devastating reality in Gaza after the declaration of a so-called ceasefire on the 11th of October 2025.
Muhammad al-Zaqzouq, one of the book's talented contributors, will be joining the conversation on Zoom from Gaza, circumstances permitting. He will be in conversation with Mahmoud al-Shaer, a gifted poet and editor of 28 Magazine; together they will reflect on the power of testimony: as written record, as an act of history-making, as a means of preserving memory, and as a form with its own distinct and enduring literary ambitions. The conversation will be moderated by Gloria Habsburg, one of the editors of Palestine is everywhere.

Collecting: a return to essential values

The trend in our society is increasingly towards a search for the human in everyday life: the beauty of imperfection, of sensitivity and of authentic feelings. Overwhelmed, on the one hand, by consumerism and industrial goods, and on the other, by virtual and dematerialised relationships, people are seeking to reclaim a natural and deeply human dimension in their daily lives. For many young people in the 21st century, a beautiful life also implies a different relationship with nature: a life in which the environment does not constantly suffer the consequences of mass production; where beauty is also synonymous with cleanliness and sustainability. Reusing, restoring, and breathing new life into places and objects. Three leading art experts are well versed in all this: Mercedes de Miguel, director of the prestigious Segre auction house; Corisande Albert, a ceramist; and Belén Llamas Ferrier, president of the Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association, who will engage in a dialogue on the need for tradition and classicism to provide steadfast values in turbulent times.

Caravaggio’s work, permeated by the tension between light and darkness, violence and transcendence, yet always of a dazzling beauty never seen before, serves as a starting point for addressing contemporary issues such as personal contradiction, love, fragility and the search for meaning. Drawing on the figure of Caravaggio, Jaime de los Santos, who has just published The Gospel According to Caravaggio, will be in conversation with Sonia Mulero, director of the Banco Sabadell Foundation. Together, they will explore a dialogue between art, thought and personal experience that invites us to reconsider the role of beauty as a space for human understanding and transformation.

Beauty: A Cultural Prejudice

Beauty is often regarded as a universal value, an objective quality that transcends time and place. Yet the criteria by which we judge whether something is beautiful are shaped by cultural conventions, historical circumstances and systems of power. What one culture reveres as beautiful, another may overlook.
Adam Lowe, director of Factum Arte — a multidisciplinary studio that produces works for artists including Anish Kapoor, Marina Abramović and Marc Quinn, among many others — and founder of Factum Foundation, internationally recognised for its pioneering work in cultural heritage preservation and the development of new techniques of rematerialisation, explores beauty as a cultural construction that shapes how we see, value, preserve and transmit material culture.
For centuries, Paolo Veronese’s The Wedding at Cana was considered one of the finest paintings in the Louvre. Today, it is largely overshadowed by Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, with which it shares a room and whose iconic status owes as much to shifting cultural narratives, reproduction, the media and tourism as it does to any intrinsic quality of the painting itself. Caravaggio, too, fell into relative obscurity before his rediscovery in the twentieth century.
Through a series of specific case studies — from Factum Arte’s rematerialisation of The Wedding at Cana and its return to the painting’s original setting in the refectory of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, to the recent rediscovery of Caravaggio’s Ecce Homo in Spain — Lowe examines how the concept of beauty is constructed, transformed and transmitted over time.

Inma Ballesteros (Spain) and Sonia Faleiro (India) are two figures indispensable to promoting writers in today’s global literary ecosystem. They are the driving force behind bringing diverse literary voices to festivals and book fairs in every corner of the world. Ballesteros promotes Spanish culture in her role as director of programming at Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), whilst Faleiro is the founder of the South Asia Speaks mentoring programme, which aims to amplify emerging literature in that region. The two organisers will speak with the writer and deputy editor of La VanguardiaMiquel Molina about the importance of building networks to support literary communities of emerging talent and about their work at the helm of AC/E and South Asia Speaks.
