The Nicaraguan Rubén Darío, as well as being a poet, journalist, writer and diplomat, was one of the first foodies, over a century before the term was invented. This fact is clearly reflected in the book A la mesa con Rubén Darío, by Sergio Ramírez. Based on that investigation, Ramírez, winner of the 2017 Cervantes Prize, will talk to José Antonio Carbonell, editor of Biblioteca Básica de Cocinas Tradicionales de Colombia, about the important role that food and drink have played in Latin American literature over the last century and how, through books, we can discover the changes to eating habits in the region, the splendid mixture of Latin and Caribbean cuisines, and the social importance of the art of knowing how to eat.
