The writer and academic Andrew Solomon, who specialises in psychology, politics and culture, won the National Book Award in 2001 and was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for The Noonday Demon. His latest publication is Far from the Tree: Parents, Children and the Search for Identity, which details a study of around three hundred families who have learnt to live together despite their difficult situations.
