This kind of work embraces the ethos of "jugaad"  a Hindi word meaning the art of finding low-cost solutions to difficult problems. This spirit of enterprise has spread to America, where a group of students from Stanford University have created a $100 body warmer for babies, emulating conditions from a $25k incubator that simply wouldn't be available in poorer areas of the world.

If you missed this but would like to hear more from the Cambridge Series, Diane Coyle, Bennett Professor of Public Policy will be giving her talk: How Do We Know How Well Off  We Are? Event 100 at 2:30pm on Sunday 27 May.
