East doesn't meet West

John Thomas, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, and now Chancellor of Aberystweth University, spoke on the different concepts of law in China and Western Europe. In Chinese law, the Party is supreme. It created the rule of law and is above the law. In the West, governments are not above the law. "Our view of law should prevail and not the Chinese model," Thomas cautioned. "Rule by lawyers would be a terrible thing."
