The History of Philosophy

With the first authoritative and accessible single-volume history of philosophy to cover both Western and Eastern traditions, A.C. Grayling returned to the Hay Festival stage to launch his magnum opus The History of Philosophy.

Grayling took the audience from the world-views and moralities before the age of the Buddha, Confucius and Socrates, through Christianity’s capture of the European mind, to the Renaissance and Enlightenment and on to Mill, Nietzsche, Sartre and, finally, philosophy today.

On the two great questions of philosophy 'what is reality?' and 'what matters in reality?' he said, "we're all born with a pair of spectacles that make us see the world through a certain type of lens, it's our duty to take those spectacles off and look at things clearly and honestly".
