Guardian Hay Festival

Hay Festival Sponsors

The idea of the big Hay family gathering has spread and spread, and whilst the basic idea is the same as ever it was around my parents’ kitchen table twenty years ago, now we are lucky enough to have visitors, and supporters, and sponsors of like mind from across the world. Since Richard Booth opened his first bookshop here in the ’sixties Hay has been a byword for relaxed, inquiring, intelligent pleasures. Forty-five years on this farming community and its market town with the crazy mix of antiquarian bookshops enjoys the best food, the best shopping, and the best landscape in Britain.
