Festive magic for all the family at Hay Festival Winter Weekend, from 30 November to 2 December 2012

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Winter Weekend so merry, and to The Swan Hotel for hosting the sparkling stories, dancing and Christmas inspiration.

We talked politics with Nick Robinson, discussed the natural world with Ben Fogle, and discovered The Last King of Wales with Michael Davies and Sean Davies. Kitty Corrigan (former Deputy Editor of Country Living magazine) led a Women in Business forum on 'How To Turn Your Hobby Into A Business', and we were inspired by three successful local entrepreneurs.

Friends gathered to dance at our opening ceilidh, laughed fit to burst with late night comedy from Mark Watson, and ended the weekend dancing to gypsy jazz from the Remi Harris Quartet.

Sea Legs Puppet Theatre performed for young children at The Swan, and craft-loving children dropped in to make Christmas decorations at Booth’s Bookshop. Teenagers joined a masterclass with writer Horatio Clare to write a book in a day; then learned how to transform their story into a bound book with local design agency bwa.

Hay Castle opened its doors for the first time in hundreds of years with guided tours by the Friends of Hay Castle. And of course everyone was tempted into the shops with inspiration of all kinds for Christmas presents, from Hay Baby’s handmade clothes and children’s gifts to outdoor presents from Golesworthys and Rohan and foodie treats from Hay Deli. Eat, think and be merry!
