She was the winner of the Medellin Unpublished Story Book Prize in 2018 with her book Vine a buscar el desierto, subsequently published by Seix Barral in 2019. Journalist and teacher of screenwriting for film and television in Barcelona, she studied Creative Writing in Madrid. For those at Seix Barral publishing house, Isabel Botero's writing is a discovery: direct, subtle and heir to a tradition that reveals the drama of its characters through journeys around the world. Vine a buscar el desierto (2019) is a set of 20 stories with two types of journeys: physical and external, of the kind that takes the characters to places like Havana, Tel Aviv, Cairo, Madrid, Barcelona and Buenos Aires. This is complemented by "an inner journey that leads people to travel and change their lives forever by becoming immigrants.” According to the writer Pablo Concha, these stories are told with “a simple, descriptive, clear and fluid language”. He adds that in this book the characters reach other places "where there is always the possibility of reinventing themselves, leaving behind the mistakes made and bad experiences, and the hope of fulfilling dreams is always there."
